A recycling bin, restaged as a multiplayer mixed-reality performance.
XR Recycle turns one of the city's most invisible routines into a public, playable experience — a physical installation built from recycled plastic, merged with its real-time virtual twin.
THE HIDDEN PROCESS, STAGED
Recycling happens offstage: collected, trucked, and processed far from the people it depends on. This installation moves the process into the spotlight — a smart bin senses every bottle deposited, and the system answers with an immersive story about where that bottle goes.

A PHYGITAL SET
The set is a cluster of modular cubes cut from recycled plastic panels, mirrored one-to-one by a digital twin inside the headset. Half the structure is physical, half virtual — the audience moves through both at once.
Sensors in the bin read the weight, volume and type of each deposit, feeding the virtual scene in real time.

THE AUDIENCE PERFORMS
The show runs on a simple script: drop in a plastic bottle, take a headset, and step into a multiplayer game where the recycled geometry responds to your hands. Visitors sculpt the virtual blocks together — learning the recycling mechanism by playing it.

THE LOOP CLOSES
At the end of a session, players design a small object from the volume they recycled, and the system prints it on the spot in recycled PETG — waste in, keepsake out. In first user tests, 86% of participants said the experience made them want to recycle in daily life.

AN INTERACTIVE STAGECRAFT
This is a working pipeline, not a concept: sensors and microcontrollers on stage, a game engine driving real-time visuals, headsets shared by multiple players, and fabrication closing the night with a physical takeaway.
The same stagecraft scales to a concert moment the crowd controls, an XR film set, or a touring interactive lobby — an environment that listens to its audience and answers back.
