Raw concrete serves as the primary material backdrop. Existing concrete surfaces retain their natural texture and traces of age, establishing a neutral, subdued base that keeps focus on artworks rather than decorative finishes.

Complementing the concrete, metal elements are strategically applied as modular, reversible components. Exposed steel is used for stair railings, sliding partition frames and hardware systems, delivering sharp industrial contrast without overwhelming the overall restrained tone.

Instead of rigid permanent walls, movable and multi-functional furniture shapes spatial layouts. Freestanding seats, modular display units and sliding steel partitions can be rearranged or fully removed. This allows the gallery to shift between open large-scale installation spaces and smaller enclosed viewing zones, responding flexibly to varying curatorial demands.

The design follows a clear static-and-variable logic: the original concrete building structure stays unchanged, while functions, boundaries and atmospheres are adjusted through detachable metal hardware and reconfigurable furniture.

The variable kit is documented as a set of fabrication drawings: aluminum-topped tables, wall-hung steel benches, brackets and braces dimensioned to the millimeter. Every insertion is designed to be bolted on — and unbolted — without touching the original structure.

Since opening, the gallery has cycled through exhibitions of very different scales and moods — paintings hung on perforated steel, interactive installations, intimate viewing rooms — each staged within the same concrete shell.

This is the logic of a touring production: a fixed structure engineered for fast changeover, so that each new show transforms the atmosphere without rebuilding the venue. It is how I approach a stage set as much as a gallery — design the system once, then let every performance redress it.
